Guest Post: Another Way To Practice Ties By Yourself

This great guy named Bruce emailed me not with a question (which happens a lot, these days) but with a handy dandy solution to a very common problem; when you need to practice ties, but you have no model handy, and you’re not quite mobile enough to practice ties on yourself.

Pete, I’m not limber enough to practice double column ties on myself. So I came up with a tool to allow me to practice single and double column ties. It cost under 10$ for materials at Home Depot and presses together in seconds with out tools. If you give me an email address I can send you pics and a materials list! Thank you!”

My first thought was, what an awesome guy. He’s not messing about complaining, he’s getting it together and creating a solution, and then he’s emailing me to share. I definitely have time for him.

My response:

Bruce, that sounds freaking awesome. I’d love to see it!

Pete,

This is made from two 1 1/2” by 24” pieces of PVC pipe and a “U” connector commonly used for a plumbing trap.  I put caps on the ends for aesthetics but not necessary.  I just pressed it all together or it can be cemented with PVC glue/cement. The 24” lengths are pre-cut so I used them but they can be cut to length.  PVC can be cut with anything, even dental floss.  I attached a single and double column knot to show it in use!  I just lay it in my lap and practice my knot tying. Whole thing cost under 10$ US. Hope you like it!

PS I am enjoying your book!
a handy device for practicing rope bondage ties by yourself
a single column tie on a device for practicing bondage ties by yourself
A double column tie on a device made for practicing bondage ties by yourself
So this is pretty nifty. Upon seeing this, I immediately asked Bruce’s permission to share it with you all, as I can definitely see it being useful for a lot of people.
I also consider that there are challenges in tying something like this together; the pipes don’t give the way flesh does, so if you master the single and double column ties on something like this, I think you’ll actually have an easier time tying wrists, arms, or ankles together or to something else.
Great going Bruce!

  1. Pete, your comments about mastering ties on the PVC practice tool and then going to real arms and wrists and having an easier time are spot on. After working out and practicing some of your ties on the practice tool I had an opportunity to practice with a real model. My confidence level was high and you were so right, it was EASIER to tie her wrists and arms and ankles than on the practice tool. I am still practicing with the PVC tool and working out new ties. Thank you for posting about the PVC practice tool. I hope it helps some of your readers. It took away much of my frustration and really helped me to get started.

  2. BTW: the “tool” is a bit more stable if you close it with a second U-connector.
