A Shibari Shamble

image

I don’t know if you’ve read Terry Pratchett’s Tiffany Aching series, but you should. You really should. They’re freaking amazing, easy to read, and they feature the  best kinds of characters – including witches and pictsies with blue woad covering their skin.

So one of the devices the witches use is a shamble. Similar to a cat’s cradle but much more messy, a shamble contains whatever was in a witches pockets, plus something living.

I miss Terry already. I really do. His writing influenced my life in so many ways, and he had a huge influence on my sense of humour and my perception of the world.

I was thinking about this when I was at camp. I had a rope bag plus some miscellaneous stuff in it, so I made a thing. A remembrance.
Sort of a vaguely hedonistic shibari shamble, using the contents of my bag and two trees as the living things.
And I stood back, and I beheld it, and I saw that it was good.

Good luck crossing the desert, Terry.

  1. It’s beautiful to find a fellow shibari- and Pratchett-lover. This is such a nice tribute, I just had to let you know. GNU Terry Pratchett 🙂

    1. Thanks man, appreciate it 🙂
